READING TIME    6 Minutes

We all grew up listening to fairy tales, and while the grown-up in me understands that fairy tales almost never come true, the child in me still believes in happy endings. It's that little shred of hope that we all hold on to, and what is life without hope?

Fairy tales aren't just stories we tell children - they have deep rooted meanings, each and every one of them. Real life isn't like fairy tales because villains don't wear black capes and Prince Charming doesn't come riding on a white horse like a knight in shining armour. However, there's so much to learn from fairy tales; lessons to can be applied to real life. Read our list and you'll see!

“Fairy tales by nature only talk about the victors. The survivors. Nobody speaks about what happens to those who failed, except in the abstract: as cautionary tales to guide others onto the path to success. How many brave knights fell to the dragon before he was slayed by the noble prince? How many children burned to a crisp and eaten before the wicked witch received her due? These stories are lost, but the lesson behind them is not: it is not enough to be merely pure and good.” - Nenia Campbell

“Once upon a time, they say, there was a girl...there was a boy...there was a person who was in trouble. And this is what she did...and what he did...and how they learned to survive it. This is what they did...and why one failed...and why another triumphed in the end. And I know that it's true, because I danced at their wedding and drank their very best wine.” - Terri Windling

“The wise old fairy tales never were so silly as to say that the prince and the princess lived peacefully ever afterwards. The fairy tales said that the prince and princess lived happily ever afterwards; and so they did. They lived happily, although it is very likely that from time to time they threw the furniture at each other.” - G.K. Chesterton
